The play’s the thing…

It is Friday (again) already! Where does the time go??

This week has been a hubbub of theatre and meetings and I’ve spent far too long in the Soho Theatre Cafe (people will start to think I work there)! I’ve seen the beautifully constructed and superbly acted Tender Napalm at the Southwark PlayhouseThe Producers at the Guildford School of Acting – one of the best graduate shows GSA have produced in my opinion – fabulously directed by Nickolai Foster; the utterly bizzare, rather unique, but none-the-less terrifically executed production of No Picnic at Waterloo East starring Poleroid Theatre’s Sam Hoye (if ever you want to see a demonic clown, a less than ordinary doll and two life sized teddies then this in the play for you!); and finally, a brand new version of the musical Little Women at The Playhouse composed by a very talented up and coming composer Steven Luke Walker. Phew! We are just about all theatre’d out!

So, with all that aside, it’s just a quickie blog today… BUT with a bit of an agenda I have to confess…

We’re currently looking for WRITERS to join us here at Poleroid for our next super edgy, quirktastic project…!

We are continually developing new writing projects, and are now proprosing to produce (gosh, look at that iliteration) our first full-length piece to be performed for a 4 week run in Spring of 2013. Now, that may seem like an awfully long way away, but trust us – it isn’t! If we could do it next month we would, but alas, theatre takes a lot more planning time than that. (This is the point where I wish I wasn’t as impatient as I am!)

As you’ve no-doubt read, our previous productions FlickBook, Back2Back and Breakout were written by various emerging writers, but now we’re hitting the big stuff, we need one superduper playwright to captivate audiences and catapult Poleroid into eyes and ears of the London theatre scene. (No pressure).

People won’t know what’s hit them when we’re finished with this one!

We are in cohoots with various London Fringe venues (including, Theatre503, Old Vic Tunnels, Oval House) so if you have a play in development – or you know of a young playwright who does – and you’d like to see it produced by Poleroid, we are now accepting submissions. The play will be developed and workshopped with us over the coming months with our team of edgy (and very talented) actoryfolk.

We have only a few guidelines for you…
• Small cast
• Suitable in tone for a new writing venues like Theatre503, Old Vic Tunnels, Oval House, Tristan Bates, Soho Theatre
• Has elements of humour no matter how dark the essential subject matter might be
• No longer than 2 hours (approx) in running time

Please send all submissions to me at poleroidtheatre@hotmail.co.uk

I’m now off to enjoy this rather gloomy, but still super humid day (and of course read all your wonderful submissions).

“What’s my motivation?”

“It’s in the script.”

Have a lovely weekend!

Over and out.
